For 10 years, Light Up Winter has been powered by passionate volunteers who bring the magic to life behind the scenes, and Megan Rae is one of those special people.

Megan’s Light Up Winter journey began with inspiration close to home. Her enthusiasm for the event was sparked by her mum, Shona Rae, who was part of the original Light Up Winter crew and helped lay the foundations for the magical community celebration we know today.

Since the very beginning, Megan has been a familiar face behind the mulled wine stall, carefully mixing up those delicious winter warmers that have become a much-loved part of the event. She’s always ready to lend a hand, get stuck in, and help wherever needed, with a smile, plenty of laughs, and perhaps the occasional well-earned wine!

We caught up with Megan to find out a little more about her Light Up Winter journey...

What first inspired you to get involved with Light Up Winter?

“Watching Mum be involved from the start made me appreciate how special this event was. I loved seeing the community come together and wanted to be part of creating that magic too.”

What’s your favourite part of being involved?

“Seeing everyone enjoying themselves. Watching families, friends and visitors come together on a winter’s night is pretty special, and I love being part of the team that helps make it happen.”

The mulled wine stall has become a favourite tradition, what’s the secret?

“Lots of love, a few secret ingredients, and plenty of stirring!”

What keeps you coming back year after year?

“The people. Light Up Winter is about community, and I love being part of something that brings so much joy to Cromwell.”

Thank you Megan for a decade of dedication, friendship and for helping keep Cromwell warm, one cup of mulled wine at a time.
