The People Behind The Magic!

Light Up Winter doesn’t just happen. It takes an incredible crew of volunteers across age groups and generations, all willing to pitch in and do whatever needs doing, often long before the first lantern is lit and well after the last one has floated away.

Our volunteers helped with a range of tasks from set-up and pack-down, bringing items from storage to the event site, hanging banners and signage, gold coin collections, handing out and lighting lanterns, stringing fairy lights, preparing and serving mulled wine, clearing rubbish, heavy lifting, helping with the Light Up Your Hat competition, joining the post-event lantern clean-up crews and everything in between!

Some volunteers were front and centre. Others worked quietly behind the scenes. Some were there for hours, some popped in to lend a hand, and some seemed to be everywhere!

And that’s what makes our volunteer crew so special, different ages, different backgrounds, different jobs, all coming together for the same reason: to help create a little bit of magic for our community.
